Colortree Group of Richmond, VA Saves Energy and Money by Switching from HPS to Induction

Shine Retrofits recently partnered with Energy Innovators LLC of Richmond, VA to retrofit the outdoor warehouse area for a Richmond printing company, Colortree Group. Colortree replaced existing HPS fixtures using induction retrofit kits.

For the project, Colortree retrofitted their parking area and sidewalk lighting with Neptun Light 80 Watt Oval Bulb Type Induction Retrofit Kits. The existing fixtures were shoebox style with 150 watt metal halide lamps. They also retrofitted loading dock pole lighting with Neptun Light 39200-UNV 200 Watt 16″ Square Flood Induction Fixtures. The existing pole light fixtures were 400 watt HPS lamps.

Aside from reducing fixture wattage, Colortree will save energy and money by using the newer, more efficient retrofits, which reduce operational and maintenance costs. In addition, their light quality was significantly improved, as they are now able to see the writing on their trucks. Overall, Colortree was very pleased and impressed with the outcome of the project. See below for some before and after photos.

Induction Helps this Car Wash Save Energy and Become Brighter

We are proud to feature John Williams who owns a carwash in Peach Tree City, Georgia.  John has been retrofitting his old 400 watt Metal Halide fixtures with a more energy efficient and brighter 150 watt induction lamp.

John was a little nervous at first about tackling the retrofit on his own but after some trial and error, he's perfected the process and has become quite the professional installer.

The best part, John is now saving 62.5% on his energy consumption.  Or about $1,708.00 per year at .12 per KWH on the 13 fixtures he's put in so far.

Here's two photos of John's retrofit work

Thanks to John for letting us use his photos and story for our newsletter.

Shine Retrofits partners with City Electric and NACCO Construction to provide a new energy efficient lighting system for Owens & Minor of Denver, CO.

Owens & Minor has recently completed a distribution warehouse renovation project in Denver, CO to incorporate their growing business. Shine Retrofits was chosen by the general contractor North American Commercial Construction Company (NACCO) of Dallas, TX and City Electric of Louisville, CO to provide a full energy efficient lighting system, including the products, design, rebate administration, and financial and energy analysis for the facility.

The project consisted of combining two existing distribution areas within the building, doubling the square footage of the new warehouse to over 90,000 sq ft.  Each previous space had different lighting layouts and fixtures - 400 Watt High Bay HID fixtures in one space and 8 ft T12 HO strip fixtures in the other. Each of these types of lighting systems are outdated by today's energy efficiency standards.  All these existing fixtures were removed and replaced with new optimally placed Howard Lighting T5 HO fixtures throughout the facility using a custom layout designed by Shine Retrofits.

The custom lighting design incorporates many of the facility's needs with regards to racking systems, conveyer belt operating areas, loading docks, employee safety, and energy savings.  The light levels throughout the facility have now doubled or tripled, depending on the needs of specific areas.  Narrow reflectors on some of the new light fixtures were used in very narrow aisles to maximum the light emitted to the ground.  The conveyor system needed its own specific lighting layout to incorporate high light levels so that employees will have more than enough light to stay safe.

To maximize energy savings, fixture-mounted occupancy sensors were used on fixtures to automatically turn them off when forklifts orpeople are not utilizing that area of the facility.  When combining the sensors with the new energy efficient T5HO fixtures, the company will save over 109,000 kWh of energy use per year, all while drastically increasing their light levels and quality.

Shine Retrofits additionally administered the utility rebate application process and was able to get Owens & Minor over $19,000 in energy efficient lighting rebates through Xcel Energy's Lighting Efficiency program.
