One-lamp linear fluorescent T8 ballasts control the amount of electricity powering a single-lamp linear fluorescent fixture. Without a linear fluorescent electronic lighting ballast to limit the voltage or current across the T8 lamp, either the tube or the circuit will quickly fail. For commercial retrofits and installations, electronic T8 ballasts have become the preferred linear fluorescent lighting ballast technology, replacing the less-efficient magnet ballast in most applications. One-lamp T8 electronic lighting ballasts also greatly reduce or eliminate harmonic distortion (lamp noise), flicker, or fluctuations in light output.
Since fluorescent lighting is such an important technology in our buildings, from office parks to school buildings and manufacturing facilities, it is vitally important to invest in quality ballasts that will ensure the long-term functionality and health of our fluorescent tubes. There’s nothing worse than having a light fail on you before its lifespan is up. Ballasts will help protect those lights, ensuring that the lamp gets adequate energy and isn’t damaged in the process of starting up or turning off. Shine Retrofits carries a number of the best lighting ballasts from respected manufacturers, products that you’ll be able to trust.
The T8 linear fluorescent lighting ballast is the most common type of 1-lamp ballast, offering a variety of ballast factor and wattage options to choose from. The 1-lamp T8 ballast is usually housed in the linear fluorescent fixture above or beside the lamp itself. Choose from 120- or 277-Volt 1-lamp T8 ballasts in wattages from 13 to 42 watts in the Shine Retrofits collection. You can also pick between ballasts that offer 1 or 2 lamp installation, as well as ballasts that come in a ballast factor from .77 to 1.05.
Our selection of ballasts come from a variety of manufacturers, including names such as Howard Lighting, GE Lighting, Sunpark Electronics, and Universal Lighting Technologies. Most of them are instant start ballasts, which are ideal for quick start applications where the fluorescent lamp isn’t being constantly turned on and off. This usually best for offices, bathrooms, hallways, and other consistently used rooms where lights are left on for long periods of time. The programmed start ballasts, on the other hand, work well for those applications in which your fluorescent lamps are being consistently turned on and off. The right 1-lamp electronic ballast protects the light source from damage and helps maintain consistently high-quality illumination throughout the life of the lamp. Depending on your commercial or residential application, your needs can differ quite a bit. Since ballasts are so important to the lifespan and health of your fluorescent lamps, it’s important to be informed about what type of 1-lamp T8 ballasts, or other types of fluorescent ballasts, you will need for your lighting project.
